YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) responded to a two-vehicle collision which proved to be fatal.

It happened on Saturday, April 18, at before 4:40 a.m.

YCSO was called to the scene of collision at County 14th Street and Avenue C. The crash involved a 2013 toyota van and a 2008 Mitsubishi sedan.

Investigations revealed the Toyota was traveling eastbound on County 14th Street approaching Avenue C.

At this time, the driver in the Mitsubishi sedan traveling northbound on Avenue C did not stop for the stop sign.

Because of this, the Mitsubishi traveled in the Toyota's direct path.

The Toyota then struck the driver's side of the Mitsubishi. Impact caused the Toyota to roll onto the driver's side of the vehicle, crashing into a power pole.

YCSO says the Mitsubishi "came to rest" in a field northeast of the intersection.

Both drivers were then transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center (YRMC) with serious injuries.

The driver of the Mitsubishi later died from his injuries and was pronounced deceased at YRMC.

YCSO has identified the Mitsubishi driver as Jonathan Oscar Vasquez, 31, of Yuma.

YCSO says his next of kin has been notified and further investigation is pending.

It is yet unknown if alcohol was a contributing factor to this incident.

YCSO has not released further information on the driver of the Toyota.

Anyone with information regarding this case, please contact the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office at 928-783-4427 or 78-CRIME to remain anonymous. You can also visit YCSO's website to submit an
