Yuma public transit improvements could happen

Improvements to local public transportation are more likely to happen because of a bill introduced today by Democratic Senator Kirsten Sinema .

The bipartisan bill is called the Small Community Improvement’s Transportation Act, if it does pass it can bring lots of changes to the transit systems in communities like Yuma.

$130,000 can really make a difference for many Yumans that depend on public transportation.

This helps transportation services like YCAT fund much-needed improvements.

Some of those include updates to the rider experience aboard their 28 bus fleet like new technology that will make boarding the bus for handicapped riders a bit more accessible.

But these improvements are badly needed as the lack of funding for transportation in small communities often goes unheard-of.

“Transportation is not heard of in general, and we need a bigger voice,” said YCAT Transit Director Shelly Kreger . ” Because we have a failing infrastructure throughout the country, an aging fleet throughout the country. ”

This isn’t the first transportation bill that Senator Sinema has introduced, earlier this year she introduced the Moving FIRST Act, which will encourage improvements, enhancements and even modernization of major American cities.

” We provide an extremely important service to the community and without their [state government] support, we would not have that, ” said Kreger .

If the bill is passed a lot of the improvements that can come from the bill will last for years to come.
