IVC honors retired professors
Imperial Valley College ( IVC ), honored two retired professors today, who were vital in integrating English classes at IVC for Spanish-speaking students.
The college dedicated a bench to the late Daniel Cerda and his wife Ernestine.
Together they helped develop IVC’s English as a Second Language Program (ESL).
They both taught ESL classes at IVC for 25 years.
According to IVC , Mr. Cerda was responsible for expanding the program into what it is now.
The ESL program at IVC serves over 1,000 students each semester.
“Being here is a fantastic Honor,” said Ernestine Cerda .
” I enjoyed teaching my ESL students and seeing them become very successful. You know once you learn English you can go anywhere and be successful, ” said Cerda .
Current ESL students at IVC attended today’s ceremony. They thanked the Cerdas for their years of dedicatoin .
