Flooding in Georgia triggers state of emergency

(CBS, KYMA) - A state of emergency was issued for the city of McCaysville, Georgia, as overnight rain caused flash flooding early on Thursday morning.

Footage taken by Chief of Police Michael Earley shows flooding on Georgia State Route 5 (GA-5) in McCaysville, located near the state's northern border with Tennessee.

Chief Earley said the mayor and city council officially declared a state of emergency for the city around 5 a.m. Eastern Time Thursday, involving the mandatory closures of all access points into the city "until further notice."

"We are urging everyone to STAY AWAY FROM THE CITY OF McCAYSVILLE," Earley said on Facebook. "Do not attempt to enter the city, bypass barricades, or interfere with ongoing emergency operations."
