Friday marks National Candy Corn Day

(CNN, KYMA) - It's almost Halloween and the spooky time when a controversial candy comes out of hiding as Friday is National Candy Corn Day.

The item, loved by some, despised by others, made its debut during the 1880s in Philadelphia.

The Jelly Belly Candy Company brags it has the longest history of producing candy corn, and officials there said they still use the original recipe.

Candy corn comes in various seasonal flavors, including pumpkin spice, chocolate mint and caramel apple.
