Trial date set for alleged White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooter

(CNN, KYMA) - A trial date has been set for the man who attempted to rush through security with a shotgun at the White House Correspondents' Dinner in April.

Cole Allen is slated to stand trial on September 7 of next year.

Prosecutors allege he was trying to assassinate President Donald Trump. They also accuse him of shooting a Secret Service officer while running through a checkpoint.

The agent's bulletproof vest stopped a pellet that came from a shotgun blast.

Allen's defense attorneys told a judge Thursday they need time to scrutinize ballistic reports from law enforcement. That's why the trial has been set for more than ten months in the future.

Allen is pleading not guilty to all four charges against him.
