Thursday is National Cat Day

(CNN, KYMA) - Be careful not to hack up a fur ball as Thursday, October 29, is National Cat Day.

The holiday serves as a reminder about the joys felines can bring to a household, especially ones who are in shelters.

Among the ways to celebrate: Adopting a cat, streaming live kitten cams and posting pictures of your furry, four-legged friend.

National Cat Day was started in 2005 by animal welfare advocate Colleen Paige. Since then, it has helped saved more than one-million cats through adoption.
