Monday marks National Pumpkin Day

(CNN, KYMA) - It's time to celebrate one of America's favorite flavors, decorations, and maybe, super foods.

It's all out pumpkin season, and Monday, October 26 marks National Pumpkin Day.

This humble squash has long been associated with Halloween for jack-o-lanterns, but it's also gotten wildly popular as a dish.

Everything from pies to coffees can be flavored with pumpkin, and you can even eat the seeds.

The indulgence is healthy because pumpkins are loaded with nutrients. They're also safe for furry friends.

Veterinarians recommend pumpkin puree for dogs and cats that suffer from certain digestive ailments.

So go nuts, and enjoy this ubiquitous fruit any way you like!
