PRESCOTT, Ariz. (KYMA) - Both Arizona Western College soccer programs finished the regular season against Yavapai College in Prescott, with the women’s team earning a dominant victory while the men saw their 16-game unbeaten streak come to an end.

The fifth-ranked Matadors men’s team fell behind 2-0 to the 15th-ranked Roughriders in the first half and was unable to mount a comeback. The loss ended Arizona Western’s unbeaten streak at 16 games, with the Matadors finishing the regular season with a 13-2-3 record.

Despite the defeat, Arizona Western secured the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference regular-season championship and will now turn its attention to the Region I semifinals next week as it begins its postseason run.

On the women’s side, the top-ranked Matadors delivered a commanding performance, defeating Yavapai 6-1 to finish the regular season unbeaten for the third consecutive year.

The victory capped another successful regular season for Arizona Western, which also secured the ACCAC regular-season title while maintaining its No. 1 ranking in the NJCAA.

With the regular season complete, both Matadors programs will shift their focus to the playoffs as they pursue regional titles and a chance to compete for national championships.
