NYC’s horse-drawn carriages ending soon

NEW YORK CITY (KYMA) - New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is bringing an end to an iconic attraction around Central Park.

Mayor Mamdani and City Council Speaker Julie Menin have agreed on a legislation to abolish horse-drawn carriage rides around the park. A vote on the proposal is expected this month.

The ban comes more than a year after an 18-year-old tourist was killed after jumping from a runaway horse carriage in Central Park on June 17.

The decision also follow claims from animal rights advocates who say the horses are overworked. However, horse and carriage owners deny the claims.
