Yuma Catholic volleyball earns 20th win with straight-set sweep

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) — The Yuma Catholic volleyball team reached another milestone Tuesday night, earning its 20th win of the season with a straight-set sweep of ALA Ironwood.

The Shamrocks entered the match looking for their third straight victory and found plenty of support from the home crowd at Carol McElhaney Oden Gym.

Yuma Catholic battled through a competitive opening set, using several key plays to chip away at an early ALA Ironwood lead.

Sadie Estes came through with a kill after Zoee Gonzalez kept a rally alive with an impressive defensive dig. The extra effort helped the Shamrocks stay within striking distance.

Later in the set, ALA Ironwood's Faith Brady used her 6-foot-1 frame to deliver a kill for the Warriors.

Yuma Catholic continued to fight back as Gonzalez set Peyton Enders for a kill, keeping the Shamrocks within reach.

The Shamrocks eventually took control of the set, with Abby Olsen providing one of the highlights of the night. The senior fooled the Warriors with a well-placed drop shot that caught the defense off guard.

Yuma Catholic closed out the first set 25-20.

The Shamrocks carried that momentum through the rest of the match, completing the sweep and earning their 20th victory of the season.

The win also added to an impressive statistic: Every one of Yuma Catholic's 20 victories this season has come in straight sets.
