Trumps Big Bend border wall blocked

(NBC, KYMA) - A federal judge on Friday ordered an immediate halt to construction of a border wall in Big Bend National Park, a blow to the Trump administration's plan to line the southern border with steel.

U.S. District Court Judge Kathleen Cardone issued the preliminary injunction which stops all ground disturbing activities and barrier construction.

The work is part of a bigger $46 billion dollar federal plan to install the 30-foot steel bollard walls along hundreds of miles of the southern border.

The center for biological diversity filed a legal challenge, claiming the department of homeland security fast-tracked the project with improper waivers to bypass environmental laws.

The Border Protection Agency issued a statement saying it is working on next steps with the Justice Department to continue construction of the wall.
