Kofa sweeps Yuma in volleyball rivalry matchup

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - The oldest rivalry in Yuma County moved to the volleyball court Monday night, with Kofa earning a much-needed win over Yuma.

The Kings entered the matchup looking to snap a nearly monthlong skid, while the Criminals were still searching for their first victory of the season.

Kofa came out strong and held off Yuma in the opening set before taking control of the second.

With the Kings already leading by a set, Yuma's Eliah Gasca set up Abigail Niewiek, who used a deflection off the net to drop the ball into open space for a point.

Later in the set, Kofa's Ariana Olea answered with a block at the net to add to their lead.

Olea then added back-to-back aces as the Kings continued to build their lead.

Kofa eventually closed out the second set 25-14.

The Kings carried that momentum into the third set, winning 25-21 to complete the sweep.

The victory improved Kofa to 3-9 on the season, while Yuma fell to 0-10.
