Over $160 million settlement seeks to reimburse Visa and MasterCard customers for ATM fees

(CNN, KYMA) - ATM customers could be due some cash as a proposed $167 million settlement seeks to reimburse people for ATM fees.

Visa and MasterCard were accused of restricting how independent ATMs, like the ones customers may find at gas stations and hotels, set access fees which in turn meant higher costs for ATM users.

The settlement applies to qualifying withdraws made between late October 2007 and mid-August.

While Visa and MasterCard have agreed to settle, they deny the allegations.
