Two men arrested in Mississippi due to the alleged sales of illegal substances

OXFORD, Miss. (NBC, KYMA) - Two people have been arrested in connection to an illegal drug in Oxford, Mississippi.

The same kind of drug police said was found where two Ole Miss students died earlier this week.

Investigators have not connected the arrests to the students' deaths.

But the bust underscores the availability of drugs experts say are a growing problem in the college town.

Investigators say they found more than 500 units of Kratom and other drugs at the store.

Kratom is illegal within Oxford city limits.

But it's among the items the Lafayette County Metro Narcotics unit says it found when officers served a search warrant yesterday at puffs vape, tobacco and beer store on heritage drive in Oxford.

The narcotics unit says it was able to purchase illegal substances from the business leading to the search warrant.

On top of the Kratom, agents also found THC cartridges, gummies and other suspected narcotics.

51-year-old Yahya Mohamed Mosleh and 18-year-old Islam Mohamed were arrested and charged with possession of schedule 1 controlled substances with intent to distribute.

Nolan brooks is a graduate student at Ole Miss.

He was working at a business next door to the busted store.

Police say the store's owner, 40-year-old Amer Alowdi, was indicted for trafficking narcotics in 2022, but left the country before he could be prosecuted.

Again, investigators have not said there's any connection to the deaths of students Aidan Hamilton and Robert Strang Monday.

But they did say Kratom bought from a store were at the scenes of both deaths.

Investigators have not confirmed a cause of death for the two students.
