Harvey Weinstein sentenced to 15 years for 2006 sex crime

(CNN, KYMA) - Disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The sentencing took place Wednesday in a New York federal court, one year after his retrial conviction for assaulting former production assistant Miriam Haley in 2006.

In court, Haley said Weinstein "abused his position and power," causing a devastating effect on her life and sense of security.

Weinstein also spoke, apologizing to anyone he may have hurt, but maintaining his innocence.

The judge called the 74-year-old a "sexual predator" and the "literal face of the MeToo movement."

Weinstein has been behind bars since his initial conviction in 2020, and it's expected the time behind bars since then will apply to his New York sentence.
