Camp Mystic owners face criminal inquiry over Texas flood deaths

(NBC, KYMA) - The owners of Camp Mystic are apparently facing a criminal inquiry after 28 people died in the catastrophic flooding last year.

A search warrant signed by Kerr County District Court said Texas Rangers believe camp leadership potentially committed crimes including manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide.

However, none of the camp leaders have been charged with anything yet.

The Texas Rangers' 14 warrants are seeking to investigate electronic data of the Eastland family, which ran the camp, along with other camp staff.

Camp Mystic, a well known summer camp on the Guadalupe River had planned to reopen, but withdrew its application for a license to operate back in April.

A probe found that the camp did not have state-required written emergency plans or adequate evacuation measures at the time of the floods that killed 25 girls, two teenage counselors and the camp's longtime director.
