New NBC News poll shows President Trump’s approval rating at second-term low

(NBC, KYMA) - American voters are frustrated over high prices on everything from food to goods to gasoline, and a new NBC News poll shows they're blaming President Donald Trump ahead of competitive midterm elections.

According to the new survey released Sunday, 56% of registered voters say they disapprove of the job the president is doing while 41% approve. That's a new second-term low for President Trump in the NBC News poll.

More than half of voters, 55%, say they believe Trump's policies have hurt the economy, and that's up from 48% when we polled back in March.

When it comes to who voters want to control Congress after the midterm elections in November, Democrats have an edge at 50% to Republicans' 45%, but this is not nearly as large of a lead for democrats compared to this time in 2018, the midterm elections in trump's first term.

The Democratic party is also viewed more negatively than the GOP. 36% of the voters polled said they have positive feelings about the Republican Party, while 49% viewed them negatively.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party had 29% of voters saying they had positive feelings about the party, with half saying the opposite.

Still, Trump and his policies are a key consideration for voters when considering their ballot.

More voters including nearly half of independents say they consider their vote to be a signal of opposition to the president than any other time in three decades of NBC News midterm polling.
