Federal judge orders Trump Administration to provide notice before changes to Kennedy Center

(NBC, KYMA) - A federal judge has issued an order requesting that the Trump Administration give a 30 day notice before any potential demolition or new construction takes place at the Kennedy Center.

U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper said his requirement seeks to avoid any confusion on that score given more recent events.

Judge Cooper is also asking the administration to file a status report with more details on the temporary closure and emergency repairs by next Wednesday.

On Wednesday, fencing went up around the building, one day after the Trump-aligned Kennedy Center board voted to immediately close the historic performing arts center for repairs.

Congress has allocated $257 million to cover the repairs, but President Donald Trump has indicated that the renovation won't happen, unless his name is on the building.
