Kennedy Center board votes to close for renovations and add President Trump’s name

WASHINGTON (CNN, KYMA) - The Kennedy Center's board has again voted to close its main building for renovations as well as put President Donald Trump's name back on the building, but in a different way.

The Trump-allied board approved the plan Thursday after a federal judge blocked an earlier closure vote.

Sources briefed on the plan say the center's newer "REACH" complex would now remain open for limited programming during the two-year renovation.

The decision to put President Trump's name back on the building came after the renovation vote.

The newly-proposed inscription below the Kennedy Center sign would read, "Restored and renovated by President Donald J. Trump."

A source familiar with the vote argued Trump's name being included below the sign is not a move to rename the center.

A federal judge previously ruled only Congress could change the center's name and ordered Trump's name removed.

The Kennedy Center removed the president's name from the venue's facade in June, but is appealing that ruling.
