San Luis, Mexico residents celebrate Mexican Independence Day

SAN LUIS, Mexico (KYMA) - Thousands of people gathered in San Luis, Mexico to celebrate Mexican Independence Day with music, food, family activities and the traditional declaration.

Nearly 80,000 people attended the celebration at the Municipal Esplanade and its surrounding streets Tuesday night.

Families and young people arrived early to find a spot to enjoy the festivities, with many wearing Mexican-inspired clothing.

Later in the evening, San Luis, Mexico Mayor Ivan Sandoval led the traditional declaration in front of the Municipal Palace, joining residents in honoring the heroes of Mexican independence.

"I had a really great time. It was very enjoyable and had a very family-friendly atmosphere. Even though there were a lot of people, everything was very peaceful," said Teresa Moreno, a resident of San Luis, Mexico.

The ceremony was followed by a fireworks show that lit up the sky over San Luis, Mexico.
