Family of murdered teen sues D4vd over her death

(NBC, KYMA) - The family of Celeste Rivas Hernandez is suing singer D4vd over her death.

The civil case comes as the musician faces murder charges in the teen's death.

Hernandez's family filed a wrongful death lawsuit Thursday in Los Angeles County Superior Court against D4vd, whose real name is David Burke.

Burke has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and charges involving the sexual abuse of a child and mutilation of human remains.

Prosecutors alleged the killing was connected to Burke's music career and his relationship with the teen.

Hernandez's remains were found last year inside the front trunk of Burke's abandoned Tesla.

The lawsuit also names Burke's mother, business entities and a security guard.

A status conference is scheduled for October 19, and a trial is expected to follow within 90 days.
