San Pasqual dominates Santa Rita for third straight year

The Warriors cruise to their second straight win of the season

WINTERHAVEN, Calif. (KYMA) - The San Pasqual Warriors continued their early-season momentum Friday night, defeating the Santa Rita Eagles 36-13 at Warrior Field for their second consecutive victory.

After earning a win over Hopi the previous week, San Pasqual entered the matchup looking to continue its recent success against Santa Rita. The Warriors had dominated the Eagles in their previous two meetings and once again came away with a convincing victory.

San Pasqual struck first with some early trickery.

Warriors senior running back Alex Acuna took a direct snap before handing the ball off to quarterback Alfred Cornejo, who found Sabian Jackson for a touchdown. The Warriors converted the 2-point attempt to take an 8-0 lead.

Santa Rita responded after a wild sequence on a botched punt.

Facing a difficult situation deep in Eagles territory, Alejandro Astorga recovered the errant snap and avoided several San Pasqual defenders before picking up a first down and keeping the drive alive.

The Eagles capitalized on the opportunity as quarterback Jayce Osborne rolled to his right and connected with Allinatae Rushing, who reached the end zone for a touchdown. Santa Rita missed the extra point, leaving San Pasqual with an 8-6 lead in the second quarter.

The Warriors answered quickly.

Pinned deep in their own territory on third down, San Pasqual went deep, and Acuna came down with a big catch to move the chains.

Several plays later, Dominic Lopez found his way into the end zone for a touchdown. Another successful 2-point conversion gave the Warriors a 16-6 lead, which they carried into halftime.

San Pasqual took control in the second half and pulled away from Santa Rita to secure the 36-13 victory.

The win was San Pasqual's second in a row and matched the Warriors' win total from last season.
