Broadway lights dimmed for late artists

NEW YORK (NBC, KYMA) - Broadway paused Tuesday night to remember some of the theater world's most celebrated performers and figures.

Broadway went dark Tuesday night as theaters across New York paid tribute to members of the theater community who had passed away.

At 6:45 pm eastern, 41 Broadway theater marquees dimmed simultaneously, honoring a group that included legendary performers Dolly Parton and Tim Curry.

The tribute also remembered Glen Hansard, Clive Davis, Josh Grisetti, Gina Ferrall, Louise Lasser, Anna Louizos, Seth Marquette, Anne Russell, James Walsh and Harold Wheeler.

The quarterly tradition was established last year by the Broadway in Memoriam Committee, made up of theater owners who consult with industry service organizations.

The coordinated light dimming served as a moment of reflection, honoring the lasting contribution these artists and theater figures made to Broadway and the broader performing arts community.
