NBC News poll reveals Americans’ feelings toward AI and data centers

(NBC, KYMA) - A new NBC News Decision Desk poll released Sunday proves there's one thing both Democrats and Republicans can agree on: They're worried about artificial intelligence (AI).

The survey asked more than 7,000 adults how they felt about AI, and overall, 70% said they're more worried than excited about it.

Democrats polled were slightly more concerned at 77%, and Republicans came in at 64%.

Even when it comes to education, the adults surveyed were apprehensive. 56% say they think a school that prohibits AI would better prepare students for the future, rather than one that integrates AI.

When it comes to the AI data centers popping up all over the country, nearly half of those polled, 45%, said they're "strongly opposed" to data centers being built in their area.

Only 9% strongly support data center construction in their community.

When asked about AI regulation, an overwhelming majority of those polled, 81%, said the government is not doing enough to regulate AI.

Shifting to politics, President Donald Trump's job approval rating is still underwater with Americans. 64% disapprove, and 36% approve of his job performance.

The numbers are a bit worse when respondents were asked to evaluate the president's handling of the war with Iran. 69% disapprove of his performance. 31% approve.
