Mail carrier saves woman’s life

VANCOUVER, Wash. (NBC, KYMA) - In Vancouver, Washington, a mail carrier's familiarity with his route may have helped save an elderly woman's life.

On the morning of August 17, around 10 a.m. Vancouver police officers entered a woman's home in the 200 block of Baltimore Way.

Police say a mail carrier called police after noticing that a woman on his route hadn't picked up her mail for several days, which wasn't normal.

Police say the mail carrier knew the woman had trouble getting around and became worried.

Officers entered the home and found the woman in a bedroom, on the floor, unconscious but breathing.

They had to move some furniture so medics could get to her and take her to the hospital.

Police credit the mail carrier's intuition for saving her life.

The manager of the local post office says postal workers will quite often call for a welfare check because of how well they know their customers.

The woman was taken to the hospital and the case has been referred to adult protective services so she can get the help she needs.
