USPS whistleblower warns of new mail ballot rules

(CNN, KYMA) - An unnamed whistleblower for the U.S. Postal Service is warning about the system being put in place for verifying mail ballots under mandates from President Donald trump.

The whistleblower report, released Tuesday, alleges some of the USPS' planned procedures, kept secret from the public, could lead to the rejection of a large number of mail ballots.

The whistleblower says the agency's I.T. teams were going to be given less than a week to test the system.

The report comes as multiple courts are considering the legality of the proposal that would require states submit to the USPS lists of their mail-in voters.

Ballots won't be delivered for states if there are any discrepancies between the voter information in the USPS system and what’s picked up by agency scanners on the ballots' envelopes.

A judge, last week, froze mandates that states have to use the system in order for USPS to deliver their ballots.

The Justice Department is appealing.

In a statement, the USPS says it is reviewing the concerns, but also defended the agency's work creating a federal ballot mail portal.
