Trump makes healthcare affordability announcement

WASHINGTON, D.C. (NBC, KYMA) - President Trump Monday announced new drug pricing deals with 9 pharmaceutical companies to lower the cost of prescriptions for Americans.

The companies joining the administration's most favored nation drug pricing program include Astellas, Beone medicines, CSL, BridgeBio, Sun Pharmaceutical, Teva and UCB.

Under the agreements, they will charge state medicaid programs the same prices for certain outpatient drugs as they charge foreign countries.

In exchange, the drugmakers will be exempt from similar most favored nation pricing programs in Medicare.

They will also get protection from pharmaceutical tariffs.

Following Monday's announcement Trump took questions from reporters on a wide range of topics, including Iran and Venezuela.
