Sword wielding man is fatally shot by Nashville police officer

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (NBC, KYMA) - A Tennessee police officer has been relived of duty after a fatal shooting over the weekend.

WARNING: body camera video of the shooting may be disturbing.

The video, edited and released by the metro Nashville police, shows officer Joshua Baney get out of his vehicle and fire 3 shots at 54-year-old Jason William Sexton.

Police say Sexton was armed with a sword.

He was transported to the hospital where we died from his injuries.

During the incident, officers also found a 26-year-old woman in the back seat of the car who was reportedly being held against her will.

Police say the woman was not injured.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation into the shooting.

Metro Police Chief John Drake directed that Baney be decommissioned and relieved of all police authority as the investigation continues.
