Search ongoing after deadly flash flood at the Grand Canyon

(NBC, KYMA) - A deadly flash flood at the Grand Canyon is prompting an ongoing search for people who remain unaccounted for, while the park imposes major water restrictions.

One person is dead and over a dozen others remain missing or unaccounted for after a flash flood swept through Grand Canyon National Park on Saturday.

Park officials say the flooding buried trails under rock slides, destroyed footbridges and cut off access to a remote area, prompting helicopter evacuations.

The body of a 46-year-old man was recovered near Crystal Rapids along the Colorado River.

The flooding also disrupted the park's water supply, beginning Monday, overnight accommodations will close several locations.

Day visits and dry camping will still be allowed as crews continue searching for those who may be missing.
