Approximately 100 Americans unaccounted for in Nepal after catastrophic flooding

NUWAKOT, Nepal (NBC, KYMA) - The State Department now says some 100 Americans are missing in the catastrophic flooding that hit the Nepal-China border earlier this week.

That's up from 90 unaccounted for on Friday.

Five Americans are confirmed to have made it to safety.

The sudden, massive flood was triggered when part of a glacier on a mountain peak collapsed and crashed into the valley below.

Rescue efforts are now in their fourth day and authorities are still finding survivors.

The death toll in Nepal and Tibet has risen to 676, with nearly 3,000 missing.

China reports seven deaths and more than 550 missing.
