Southern California experiences week-long heat wave

JACUMBA HOT SPRINGS, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - Southern California's in the grip of a heat wave expected to last all week.

It was certainly the hottest place in Southern California as Jacumba Hot Springs sits at the bottom right of our county on the map.

"It's a stop on my way to Arizona," said Sarahtina Raymond, a Jacumba Hot Springs resident.

A stop to find any kind of shade for bowie and his humans, Raymond and Becky Person.

"Well, it's like being in a sauna in a way. It's a good, dry heat," Person expressed.

A good dry triple-digit heat that surprisingly doesn't melt the windmills.

"It's off-the-charts hot. It's hard-to-deal-with hot," Raymond shared.

Apparently, it wasn't off-the-charts hot enough to stop all a pickleball game in Lakeside.

"We love pickleball. Any day we can play, we play," said Brenna Madsen, a Lakeside resident.

Madsen and her friends know they should play earlier or in the evening.

"Yeah, but none of us can get up early. So that's why we're here," Madsen explained.

Game time temperature hit 96-degrees, which explains why there were the only four pickleballers out there.

"Super hot. Super, super hot," Madsen remarked.

The best way to escape the heat in Ramona is to avoid it, and why not take care of yourself at the same time?

"We've definitely started offering cold towels instead of hot ones," said Hope Setterberg, who works at Sixth & Main.

Setterberg is more than happy to work inside at Sixth & Main as the outside was not fun.

"For me, probably uncomfortable and painful, but for most people, probably just uncomfortable," Setterberg spoke. "I am seven months pregnant."

Setterberg gets all the passes she wants, but do stay inside with a giant fan.
