Mother and daughter die in lightning strike in Florida

MARGATE, Fla. (NBC, KYMA) - Officials say a mother and her two-year-old daughter died after being hit by lighting in their neighborhood over the weekend.

They said the strike was so powerful it shook their homes along northwest First Street.

"I rushed outside immediately to assist and when I got there, I saw smoke coming out her body and a baby," said neighbor Prince Moody.

Margate Police said 31-year-old Kenya Glasgow and her two-year-old daughter appear to have been struck by lightning. As neighbors rushed to help, paramedics were quickly arriving.

Both were taken to a nearby hospital where police say they later died. Neighbors are mourning for the family they say was always very kind.

For others, the tragedy has changed the way they'll look at the next thunderstorm.
