FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Tracking severe storm chances and increasing humidity

Weather Authority / KYMA

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - I'm tracking a chance of isolated severe storms and increasing humidity as we wrap up our weekend.

As our Weather Authority First Alert Action Day coverage continues due to the extreme heat we are experiencing, now severe storms are also part of the story.

Yuma County already saw some thunderstorms and rain around 9 a.m. Sunday morning. While Imperial County is tracking to avoid the severe weather.

Temperatures in Yuma County for Sunday are tracking a bit cooler than originally expected, but conditions are still looking very uncomfortable.

The high for Sunday is expected to reach 109°F. But with the added moisture in the air, dew points in Yuma County are tracking to stay in the 64-71°F range through Monday.

As for Imperial County, the high for Sunday is tracking to hit 114°F. Through Sunday evening conditions are tracking to be a bit drier outside. But, around 11 p.m. expect dew points to increase overnight into Monday and sit in the 70°F range through the afternoon on Monday.

High temperatures on Monday are tracking to be similar across the region. Yuma County is expected to reach 109°F, while Imperial County should hit 110°F.

As for our wind gusts across the Desert Southwest, I'm tracking gusts ranging from 20-25 miles per hour Sunday evening around 5:30 p.m. Stronger gusts will persist overnight until late Monday morning around 11 a.m. Gusts are tracking to remain in the single digits and up to 16 miles per hour through Tuesday.

Be aware over the next few days as moisture and humidity are combining with the Extreme Heat Warnings we are seeing across the region. Those warnings are still set to expire next Saturday.
