Karmelo Anthony loses bid for new trial in Austin Metcalf murder case

COLLINS COUNTY (NBC, KYMA) - A judge denied Karmelo Anthony's request for a new trial.

That ruling leaves his murder conviction in place for the 2025 stabbing death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf.

The motion was denied Saturday after a two day hearing in Collin County, Texas.

Anthony will continue to serve his 35-year sentence for murder.

Had the motion been granted, Anthony's murder conviction would have been vacated.

And the Collin County District Attorney's Office would have been able to decided whether to proceed with a new trial or not.

Anthony could have also been released while the case was pending.

Karmelo Anthony was convicted in June of this year for the murder of Austin Metcalf.

Who was stabbed in the stands at David Kuykendall stadium in Frisco, Texas in 2025.
