Chinese humanoid robot beats Usain Bolt’s 100 meter sprint world record

BEJING, China (NBC, KYMA) - Usain Bolt's 100 meter sprint world record was just broken by a robot.

The difficult feat happening during the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing.

A robot named Lightning ran the 100 meter dash in 9.39 seconds.

Beating the human world record of 9.58 set by the Jamaican sprinting great in 2009.

Lightning and another robot racing so fast they slammed into a mat just past the finish line and being carried off the track on stretchers after the wipeout.

The five day World Humanoid Robot Games will see more than 2,000 humanoid robots competing in an olympics like showcase with 51 events.

And more than 1,000 competitions taking place including running, table tennis and soccer.
