Statue for Sister Jean unveiled at Loyola University

CHICAGO, Ill. (NBC, KYMA) - Loyola University's biggest fan was honored with a statue in her honor Friday.

University leaders and officials kicked off the new academic year by paying tribute to their beloved Sister Jean.

The well known Loyola Rambler worked at the university for decades, supported its sports teams, and became an international icon when the Ramblers made a strong run a few years back in the NCAA tournament.

Sister Jean Delores Schmidt is now memorialized on the Rogers Park campus of Loyola.

She passed away in 2025 at the tender age of 106.
