Kofa pitchers focus on development during offseason velocity camp

Kofa pitchers were learning how to throw heat in the Yuma summer heat

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) — Development was the focus for the Kofa Kings baseball team throughout the summer.

Following Jose Suero’s first season as head coach, he made it a priority to help his players reach their full potential. That included creating an offseason pitching velocity camp designed to help Kofa pitchers improve their mechanics, build confidence and increase their velocity.

The workouts focused on becoming more explosive and using the entire body to generate power through each pitch.

For seniors Noah Heil and Ricardo Ayala, the opportunity to learn directly from Suero proved valuable as they prepare for the upcoming season.

“I mean, it’s awesome,” Heil said. “He was a pitcher, is a pitcher, so taking his skills and giving them to us, it’s awesome. It gives us confidence, gives us his secrets and all that.”

Ayala said one of the biggest lessons was learning how to stay composed while delivering the pitch.

“Staying calm, and just right when you’re about to release the ball, just explode down,” Ayala said.

After putting in the work throughout the offseason, the Kings believe their pitching staff can become one of the strengths of the team this season.
