CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Wooden deck collapses while U.S. Marshals surround home of convicted sex offender

HUNTSVILLE, Mo. (NBC, KYMA) - Five deputies were hospitalized with a mix of broken bones, torn muscles and concussions, after a wooden deck collapsed underneath U.S. Marshals as they surrounded the home of a convicted sex offender.

A second story deck at an apartment complex collapses sending nine deputies plummeting to the ground.

The Marshals say injured task force members suffered broken bones, torn muscles and head injuries, but luckily, all will return to work soon.

The U.S. Marshals Service is the oldest federal law enforcement agency in the country.

They provide federal court security, do asset forfeiture and witness protection. They're most known for hunting down the nation's most notorious fugitives.

They're going after murderers, gang leaders, drug kingpins and mafia members.

This time they were going for 26-year-old sex offender, Jacob Alexander Munoz, convicted of possession of child pornography and placed on the Missouri sex offender registry upon his release from prison.

But several months ago, he allegedly stopped reporting to his parole officer and a warrant was issued for his arrest. A news outlet in the Missouri area was unable to reach him for comment and he does not have counsel assigned.

Authorities said previous searches of his apartment turned up numerous firearms.

This time, there's no indication it was anything but a freak accident, but their supervisor says everyone is fortunate it wasn't worse.

It turns out Munoz wasn't even at the apartment, and he later turned himself in.
