Lala leaves flooding and power outages across the islands

HAWAII (NBC, KYMA) - Tropical Storm Lala is moving away from Hawaii, but not before leaving widespread damage, flooding and power outages across the islands.

Nearly 184,000 customers across the islands remain without power, including nearly 70% on the Big Island.

Hurricane force wind gusts were reported across Hawaii, Honolulu and Maui counties, with the islands' mountainous terrain strengthening winds, particularly at higher elevations.

Gov. Josh Green (D-Hawaii) says at least 100 homes were damaged or destroyed by the storm.

Heavy rain is continuing across parts of the state, although it is becoming more scattered as Lala's outer rain bands move through.

Tropical storm warnings remain in effect for Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai and Maui.

Forecasters expect the storm's effects to move out of the Hawaiian islands by 8 a.m. Hawaiian time on Monday.
