Trump Administration asks Supreme Court to weigh in on planned White House ballroom

(NBC, KYMA) - The Trump Administration asked the Supreme Court Friday morning to weigh in on the planned White House ballroom.

President Donald Trump made an emergency application, asking the court to allow construction to continue on the White House grounds.

This comes after an appeals court ruling on August 7 upheld a federal judge's decision blocking work on the site while litigation moves forward.

That decision has yet to go into effect, so construction does continue as the Supreme Court decides what to do next.

The justices must act by August 21.

A key issue in the case is whether the National Trust for Historic Preservation, which brought the original lawsuit, has legal standing to sue based on its members being harmed by construction of a building they object to on aesthetic grounds.
