Perez Hilton’s family provides update on his condition

(CNN, KYMA) - Perez Hilton remains in a Florida hospital in serious but stable condition.

The celebrity blogger went to the hospital last week after the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office received reports a man was harming himself live on social media.

He was hospitalized under Florida's Baker Act, a law which allows temporary involuntary detention of people experiencing a mental health crisis.

His family provided an update on his condition Saturday, saying Hilton lost a lot of blood and suffered injuries that will require surgery.

They said his recovery is expected to take a long time, and has asked for privacy while he receives treatment.
