Tornado-warned storm batters Chicago area

MATTESON, Ill. (CBS, KYMA) - Torrential rain and powerful winds thrashed Matteson, Illinois Tuesday as multiple radar-confirmed tornadoes touched down in the larger Chicago region.

Video captured by Brandon Moore shows heavy rain and high winds whipping through a neighborhood as tornado warnings were issued across northeastern Illinois.

"Another day, another tornado warning for the Chicago area," Moore wrote on social media.

According to local media, a large, rain-wrapped tornado estimated to be at least an EF-2 moved through several south suburban communities, including Flossmoor, Homewood, Thornton, and Glenwood. The tornado subsequently crossed state lines into northwest Indiana.

A news report citing weather officials said the storm system brought damaging winds of up to 115 mph.
