Dallas police officer involved in friendly fire incident after pursuit

DALLAS (NBC, KYMA) - The Dallas Police Department (DPD) released video of an officer firing four rounds toward a fellow officer and a robbery suspect at the end of a pursuit.

DPD said no one was injured in the August 6 shooting. This is the ninth officer involved shooting for the city this year.

Police said it began when a man, who police later identified as 39-year-old Renard McFadden, stole a white Porsche cayenne from a parking lot after threatening the owner and her nine-year-old daughter and indicating he had a gun.

Authorities were able to locate the vehicle using the car's tracking app.

As uniformed officers initiated a felony traffic stop, an undercover officer positioned his unmarked car in front of the Porsche forcing the suspect to stop.

The undercover officer exited his vehicle with his department issued gun drawn while running into a nearby yard.

Another officer fired four rounds toward the covert officer and suspect, then realized the individual is a fellow officer.

The suspect then exited the Porsche, surrendered, and was arrested. Police said a gun was found in the stolen car.

No one was injured in the incident, but DPD said this remains an active and ongoing investigation.
