Tracking muggy conditions and storm potential

Tracking monsoonal moisture that has finally cooled down our temperatures, but still keeping us very humid. We do have chances for showers and storm potential for the first half of the week.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Finally temperatures are much cooler and the extreme heat is behind us.

Temperatures are trending nice and seasonable for August!

An Air Quality Alert is in effect for Imperial County due to harmful particle pollution from windblown dust. This will stay in effect until midnight tonight.

However, the humidity isn't making it feel any cooler. Tracking very muggy conditions as dew points will stay elevated and in to the 60s and even 70s.

Tracking monsoonal moisture staying put for now, which will continue to provide a better opportunity for more widespread showers and thunderstorm activity in the region during the first half of this week.

Rain and storm chances will favor further east and even toward the west, but outflow boundaries could bring in heavy rain and flooding potential.

MONSOON RAIN CHECK: We are halfway through the monsoon season, and it has been a very dry one so far for the Desert Southwest.

Both Yuma and El Centro are seeing well below average rainfall for the half way mark of the monsoon season. Monsoon season will run until the end of September, so we have some time to catch up.

I am tracking chance for showers and storms being possible tonight and into tomorrow.

Not every area will see rain, but there are chances for isolated and scattered showers and storms being possible within the area.

If storms due appear that could lead to heavier rainfall, flooding, and gusty winds. It is important to always stay storm ready.
