Fiber cuts related to vandalism causes Verizon outage

(NBC, KYMA) - Did you experience an outage with Verizon over the weekend? You weren't the only one.

Fiber cuts related to vandalism disrupted service for Verizon users whose phones were stuck on SOS mode Sunday, the company told its customers in a notice.

Further details on the vandalism that led to the disruption were not disclosed.

"Acts of network theft and vandalism represent a direct threat to the safety and security of our communities," the company said in its notice to customers.

As a result, many Verizon customers across the country were not able to make calls or send texts until service was restored by 7:30 p.m., according to a Verizon spokesperson.
