Arizona Western women’s soccer begins exhibitions

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - The Arizona Western College women’s soccer team has officially begun preparations for the 2026 season, taking an early step toward another national title pursuit with an exhibition match against NCAA Division I opponent UC Riverside.

Arizona Western enters the new campaign following another dominant season in 2025, finishing with a 17-2 record and advancing to the NJCAA National Championship match for the second consecutive year. The Matadors ultimately finished as national runners-up but remain one of the premier junior college soccer programs in the nation.

Forwards Kanon Ozaki and Reina Kasawano, the team’s top two scorers from a season ago, are back to lead the attack. The Matadors also welcome the return of several key contributors, including Ariana Peraza, Jaylee Miller and Kiana Kanudson.

As is the case in many years for the team, an international freshman class is expected to make an immediate impact. The group is highlighted by center-back Maika Sato of Tokyo, Japan, midfielder Riko Ori, who concluded her high school career by helping her team capture a national championship in Japan, and forward Abril Aguirre, who previously represented Mexico on its Under-20 National Team.

With a blend of experienced returners and talented newcomers, Arizona Western hopes to build on its recent success and make another deep postseason run as the 2026 season approaches.
