Sen. Mitch McConnell discharged from hospital

(CNN, KYMA) - Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said he has been discharged from a rehabilitation center where he's been recovering from a fall.

The 84-year-old politician added he will continue his recovery with intensive physical therapy at home.

Sen. McConnell, in a statement Thursday, noted the many well wishes he has received, as well as the excellent care from everyone at the hospital. While at home, he plans to stay connected to his Senate staff and colleagues in the chamber.

McConnell has had several medical episodes in recent years, with this one dating to June 14.

His office had provided few early details on his absence, but in late July, said he wasn't yet cleared to leave the rehab facility.

McConnell's long absence prompted a letter from Gov. Andy Beshear (D-Ky.), asking the senator at the time to explain his long absence to be transparent with his Kentucky constituents.
