Goose alerts Texas family to barn fire

RICHMOND, Texas (CBS, KYMA) - A home security camera caught the moment one heroic goose alerted its owners to a fire that had broken out in their barn.

Chelsea Gerber told Storyful, "Our barn caught fire in the middle of the night and our goose, Goosey, alerted us by honking, waking us up! We were fortunate to get all the flames out and everyone is safe."

She said they were in "pure disbelief" upon seeing the footage captured by their home security camera.

"I feel extremely grateful," Gerber said.

Goosey became a part of Gerber's family on Mother's Day this year.

"I attended a poultry expo event with my daughter. I am historically terrified of geese, but they had a tent set up called 'Hug a Goose' and my kiddo could not resist," Gerber told Storyful.

She reluctantly agreed to let her take Goosey.

"Four months later, he saved our homestead," she concluded.
