Appeals court blocks White House ballroom construction

(NBC, KYMA) - It's a pause for some of the construction of the White House ballroom, at least for now.

A federal appeals court ruled Friday by a 2 to 1 vote, affirming a federal judge's decision to block construction of President Donald Trump's ballroom at the White House, while still allowing below ground construction to continue.

The ruling said, "The Constitution assigns Congress, not the executive, the responsibility to decide whether proposed changes to the physical design of the White House may proceed, even when where those changes are said to service security interests."

But the appeals judges put their own ruling on hold for two weeks to give the Trump Administration time to seek a Supreme Court review.

President Trump said, in a post on social media, he would do just that, saying, "This unjust decision must be overturned by the Supreme Court in its entirety."
